iPods for Wounded Veterans Event Held at Peabody Properties’ Bedford Green Apartments, Bedford

|

Bedford Green Apartments, a Veteran’s Supportive Housing Community managed by Peabody Properties, a full-service real estate and property management firm, was the site of a recent event facilitated by iPods for Wounded Veterans, which is based in Wilmington, an organization that since 2011 has brought thousands of electronics and gifts to badly injured members of the U.S. military who served in the Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and are now recovering at military hospitals.

iPods for Wounded Veterans graciously included Bedford Green Apartments in their generous iPods for Wounded Veterans undertaking, even though not all residents are badly injured members of the U.S. military who served in Kuwait, Iraq or Afghanistan. Bedford Green residents have served in various U.S. military conflicts, and are formerly homeless veterans or veterans at risk of being homeless.

All residents received new Bose headphones, as well as raffle prizes of branches of service hats, new wireless speakers, earbuds, and laptops. Handmade cards from local high school students at Wilmington High, Chelmsford High, and Malden Catholic were also distributed; many students also participated in the event and visited with the veterans. Organizations and schools that contributed to the Bedford Green Apartments iPods for Vets give-away were South Row School, Chelmsford; Manchester-by-the-Sea Memorial Elementary School, Manchester-by-the Sea; the Local Hero Club of Wilmington High School, Wilmington; Saint Thomas-Saint Dorothy’s Campus Ministry, Wilmington; Buzzel (the Senior Center of Wilmington); and Malden Catholic High School.

This organization has gone to every VA hospital in New England and will have distributed 1,000 Bose headphones to veterans before the end of the year. Paul Cardello coordinates this all for IWV. The organization is volunteer-only; no one is paid to provide these gifts. Many of the volunteers are veterans themselves; one volunteer paid for pizzas for everyone.

“We were humbled by this heart-warming event and delighted that our residents enjoyed such a great day,” said Jacquie Larivee, Resident Services Manager for Peabody Properties/Peabody Resident Services. “The veterans too were so appreciative and impressed that this organization thought of them and donated so many nice electronics. The support this volunteer organization provides for wounded veterans is outstanding.”
