Volunteer day demonstrates power of corporate kindness and community connection

Braintree, MA (September 22, 2025) – Staff members of The Peabody Companies, a group of award-winning property management and real estate firms, recently volunteered at Women’s Lunch Place, a Boston-based advocacy and support organization for women experiencing homelessness, poverty, or food insecurity.

As part of its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility, 30 team members visited in smaller groups over five separate sessions, during which they prepared and served meals while holding conversations with guests who rely on the shelter not only for nourishment, but also for a welcoming environment centered on dignity and compassion.

The collaboration with the day shelter was established earlier this year when Jennifer Hanlon Wigon, Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Lunch Place, delivered a keynote address during the Peabody Companies’ annual meeting. Peabody is also a critical partner in the agency’s 50-bed shelter-to-housing initiative.

“The Peabody Companies was the perfect real estate partner for Women’s Lunch Place as we opened a groundbreaking shelter-to-housing program focused on the needs of women,” Hanlon Wigon said. “Having team members from every level of the Peabody Companies volunteering to support our guests brings an even deeper dimension to our partnership. We’re grateful for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to making an impact.”

“Our relationship with Women’s Lunch Place is rooted in a shared commitment to dignity, stability, and hope,” said Fish-Crane. “The Peabody Companies is proud to partner with an organization that transforms lives. This alliance exemplifies how corporate engagement can be a powerful force for social good.”

Founded in 1982, Women’s Lunch Place was created to offer a safe refuge for homeless women during the day. Started as a small initiative serving meals in a church basement, the nonprofit organization has grown into a comprehensive support center that operates day shelter services and a new housing program year-round.
