Braintree and Bedford, MA (September 27, 2023) – Peabody Properties, an affiliate of the Peabody Companies, a group of award-winning property management and real estate firms, is thrilled to announce that Ray Fernandes, a resident of Bedford Green in Bedford, Massachusetts, will be inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame as a member of the band The Atlantics on September 30th.
Fernandes, whose love for music was nurtured at an early age thanks to his father’s influence, is the former drummer and background vocalist for The Atlantics, a renowned Boston rock band that shared stages with the likes of The Cars, The Ramones, and Cheap Trick and whose music garnered glowing reviews by Rolling Stone magazine.
Departing from The Atlantics in 1979 after a two-year stint with the band, Fernandes went on to form the synthpop group Primary Colors. Despite his musical success, life took a challenging turn, leading the musician into a period of homelessness. During this time, Fernandes connected with the Veterans Administration – providing him with a home and the support needed to rebuild his life.
“The VA has treated me well,” said Fernandes, a resident of Bedford Green, a Peabody Properties community that offers permanent, supportive housing for homeless veterans and those at imminent risk of homelessness.
As to the recognition he will soon receive as a New England Music Hall of Fame inductee, Fernandes said, “After everything I’ve gone through – from me to go from a homeless situation to being a member of the Hall of Fame – is so gratifying.”
“The entire Bedford Green community is excited for Ray,” said Betsy Collins, vice president of development for Peabody Properties. “His story is a true testament to the powers of spirit and resiliency.”
The New England Music Hall of Fame will hold its 2023 induction ceremonies at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts, on September 30th.
