Peabody Properties Receives IREM’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award

Peabody Properties, a group of award-winning property management and real estate firms, was recently awarded the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award by the Institute of Real Estate Management® (IREM) Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4 at the chapter’s annual meeting, which took place December 2 at Granite Links in Quincy.

IREM Boston’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award recognizes outstanding leadership in ensuring that all people feel a sense of belong in the workplace.

In particular, Peabody Properties was selected to receive this award as a result of the organization’s efforts to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, culture competency and development among staff, residents, vendors, contractors, coworkers, peers, and community; implement policies and procedures in key areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion for recruitment, employee retention, residential leasing and retention programs; encourage volunteerism in the community with regard to cultural connections and/or diversity outreach programs; and proactively contribute to local diversity and minority issues by building relationships with diverse communities and educating citizens on matters of diversity disparities.

Peabody Properties also spent the year closely examining its diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts – with its staff members, clients, residents and community partners. Through persistence, scheduled listening tours, participant-driven conversations and focused exercises, Peabody Properties is working to effectively identify and disrupt existing patterns of prejudice, implement meaningful cultural changes, and develop training initiatives to create and foster an open and inclusive environment throughout all levels of the organization.

Kelley Hannon, executive director of IREM Boston Chapter No. 4, presented the award to David Harris, property manager, Abraham Leon, resident service coordinator, and Krystal Rodriguez, director of portfolio operations, all of Peabody Properties.

“We are delighted to recognize Peabody Properties for their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Hannon. “They are an organization that others can look to as they work toward identifying and achieving their own improvements in these areas, and we appreciate their leadership and their example.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our efforts in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Melissa Fish-Crane, principal and COO of Peabody Properties and 2022 IREM Boston Chapter President. “We have made this area a priority for our organization over the last several years, and while we still have much to accomplish, we are proud of what we have achieved so far, as well as the kind of all-encompassing culture we are striving to build.”
